The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, and trauma-informed care to any victim and/or perpetrator of violence, both intentional and unintentional.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately assess patient needs and develop/implement/review/maintain a comprehensive care plan.
  • Evaluate and provide care as directed to achieve desired patient outcomes for patients newborn thru geriatric.
  • Perform quality assurance functions to include maintenance of chain of evidence, documentation appropriateness, referrals, preparing and interpreting reports, and following mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Educate the patient/family on physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of examination, treatment, and care.
  • Coordinate the preparedness of documents, testimony, and case facts to be presented as necessary.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
  • Meet scheduling requirements, including nights, weekends, holidays, and call.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
  • Graduate of accredited RN program.
  • Completion of a 64 hour course or two 40 hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire date.
  • Minimum of one year of acute care experience.
Required License/Certifications/Registrations
  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Current ACLS and PALS within six months of hire date.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing or a compact state.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations
  • SANE-A and SANE-P

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, demonstrating an understanding of cultural, educational, and age-related diversity.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Possess compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.

  • Medium Work: Occasionally exerting up to 50 lbs - constantly exerting up to 10 lbs. 26-50% of the day may be standing or walking.
