The employee in this position<br><br>responds to emergency calls, renders medical assistance to the level of<br><br>the employees certification, and transports patients to the proper<br><br>facility\<br><br>Essential Functions\<br><br>Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls calmly, efficiently and<br><br>promptly;\<br><br>Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and<br><br>prioritize\<br><br>medical procedures to be followed;\<br><br>Provides emergency medical treatment, while not exceeding the level of<br><br>skill, training and\<br><br>certification of the individual employee;\<br><br>Completes patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all<br><br>other forms and\<br><br>reports in a competent and timely fashion;\<br><br>Operates ambulances and other department equipment safely and<br><br>efficiently;\<br><br>Rescues and extricates victims of accidents, sudden illness or<br><br>entrapment using proper rescue\<br><br>and medical techniques;\<br><br>Perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments and provide<br><br>continuing care and\<br><br>treatment while enroute to a facility, monitor and report changes in<br><br>patient condition;\<br><br>Under medical direction and following prescribed standing orders perform<br><br>a variety of\<br><br>invasive and non-invasive therapies including but not limited to<br><br>assessment and\<br><br>evaluation of the ill and injured, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and<br><br>defibrillation,\<br><br>administration of drugs, agents and solutions, pulmonary ventilation,<br><br>application of\<br><br>dressing and bandages, control of shock, and immobilization of<br><br>fractures, and all other skills for\<br><br>Basics;\<br><br>Assist and coordinate with other emergency service agencies in rescue<br><br>operations,\<br><br>motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations;\<br><br>Communicates with professional medical personnel and treatment<br><br>facilities to obtain\<br><br>instructions regarding further treatment and/or to arrange reception of<br><br>patients to the appropriate\<br><br>center;\<br><br>Maintains order at scenes, including crowd disbursement and restraint of<br><br>family\<br><br>and friends;\<br><br>Prepares inventories and stocks supplies and inspects equipment for<br><br>proper operation;\<br><br>Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of the departments<br><br>equipment,\<br><br>apparatus and facilities.\<br><br>Marginal Functions\<br><br>Attends and participates in required on-duty continuing education for<br><br>department staff;\<br><br>Performs other duties as directed or required.\<br><br>Position Requirements\<br><br>Experience: Some experience in the field of emergency medical services<br><br>is preferred, but not\<br><br>required.<br><br>Education/Licenses: Must have a minimum of either a high school diploma<br><br>or a GED. Must possess\<br><br>and maintain current Kansas EMT/AEMT/Paramedic certification. Must<br><br>possess and maintain a valid Kansas\<br><br>Class B drivers license and maintain an insurable driving record.<br><br>Technical Skills: Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical principles,<br><br>practices, and\<br><br>techniques. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to<br><br>determine proper course of\<br><br>action. Ability to deal tactfully with other persons and communicate<br><br>effectively and clearly,\<br><br>both orally and in writing. Ability to function in life/death situations<br><br>relying on sight,\<br><br>hearing, smell and touch to make critical decisions while maintaining<br><br>safety of others/self;\<br><br>acknowledge associated risk of bodily injury/death in performance of<br><br>duties. Ability\<br><br>to read, understand and adhere to all City and department guidelines,<br><br>directives,\<br><br>memorandums and policies.<br><br>Problem Solving: Problem solving is a factor in this position. Problems<br><br>include determining\<br><br>strategies to provide med cal care in emergency situations and in,<br><br>sometimes, hazardous conditions.<br><br>Decision-Making: Decision making is a factor in this position. Decisions<br><br>include the selection\<br><br>of proper methods and techniques for patient care. Decisions generally<br><br>follow prescribed policies\<br><br>and procedures, but may occasionally require the use of independent<br><br>judgement.<br><br>Supervision: Work performance reviewed by the Fire Chief and other<br><br>supervisory personnel.\<br><br>Employee does not have supervisory responsibilities over subordinate<br><br>personnel.<br><br>Accountability: Employee is accountable for adhering to privacy and<br><br>confidentiality requirements\<br><br>relating to patient medical and personal information. Employee is<br><br>responsible for the efficient\<br><br>use of time and materials. He/she is responsible for reporting any<br><br>problems immediately to\<br><br>supervisory personnel.<br><br>Personal Relations: Frequent contact with the public and other first<br><br>responder\<br><br>personnel.
