Under direct supervision, this position provides customer service and accurately reads water meters for utility billing. Performs other duties as assigned.<br><br><em style="color: inherit;text-indent: 0.0px;"><strong><strong><em><strong>SALARY DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE.  Starting salary posted at minimum-midpoint. </strong></em>   </strong></strong></em><strong><span style="color: inherit;font-style: normal;text-indent: 0.0px;"> </span></strong> Assists customers by checking for leaks and possible misreads. Collects payments from customers, and cuts off the water if the bills remain unpaid. Reads and maintains the meters, enters the manual reads into a laptop, and collects radio reads. Responds to work orders. Turns the meter box on or off, sets the meters, replaces broken meter boxes, and changes the cut-offs and backflow. Assists the Utilities Department when necessary. Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.<strong>Education and/or Experience </strong><br>High School Diploma or GED required. No experience is required. At least one year of meters’ experience is preferred.<br><br><strong>Certificates and Licenses </strong><br>Ability to obtain Water Class D (Distribution) and/or Wastewater Class D (Collections I) license within one year of employment. Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License. Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards. Driving is a requirement of this position.<strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</strong><br>Knowledge of basic maintenance methods, procedures, tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices in a construction environment. Ability to learn a variety of repair and maintenance tasks involving water distribution and sewer collection systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, general public, and elected officials. Ability to interact tactfully with customers during stressful situations. Must be able to exercise organizational and time management skills. <br> <br><strong>Special Requirements</strong><br>Subject to be on-call during non-working hours.<br><br><strong>Work Environment </strong><br>Work is primarily performed outside with frequent exposure to extreme/inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to moving traffic, heights, confined spaces, trenches, noise, fumes, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, body fluids, air and water borne pathogens, irritating plants, rodents and insects. <br> <br><strong>Physical Demands</strong><br>Heavy physical labor requiring physical strength and agility. Requires continuous physical effort in working with, lifting, carrying, and pushing heavy objects weighing 100 lbs. May be subject to repetitive motion and heavy manual labor such as painting, lifting and carrying heavy containers. May be subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering confined spaces, climbing ladders, mowing, weeding, and operating equipment. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back, or sensory faculties.
